CCSF Tournament Results

Team Sacramento competed in the CCSF Tournament on Sunday December 8. The team consisted of only  four competitors but they achieved excellent results. The win loss record was 11-2 with all 11 wins scored ippon. Special congratulations to Albert and Desmyn Williams for getting first and second in their pool and to Daniel Luz for making a strong comeback from injury to get a gold medal.  Here are the individual results:

December 2013 Schedule

The Team Sacramento December schedule includes one tournament as well as our annual kids party and pot luck. The team will be participating in the CCSF Tournament on Sunday, December 8. This means there will be no practice on Saturday, December 7. The rest of the month will consist of a regular practice schedule with exceptions for the Christmas and New Year holidays. We will be off on December 24, 25, and 26 for Christmas. This will not include Saturday December 28 when we will be having our annual kids Christmas Party and Pot Luck. Please come and join us for this event and contact Joanne to coordinate what you can bring to the pot luck. Please wear white judogis for photos. The following week we will be off on December 31, January 1 and January 2 for the New Years holiday. We will be returning to a full practice schedule on January 4th 2014. We will then be preparing for the heart of the competition season with two tournaments in February.

2013 Pan American Games Results



On November 16, 2013 Marlina Luz competed in the Infantile Pan American Championships in El Salvador. The day did not start out strong with Marlina losing her first international competition to Brazil by two yukos. Marlina did rebound to beat Dominican Republic (Ippon) and Columbia (Ippon) on the way to a well deserved Bronze medal in a very tough field. Congratulations Marlina on the first of many international medals!

2013 Palo Alto Tournament Results

Team Sacramento had a great day on Sunday at the Palo Alto Invitational Tournament. The team sent 10 competitors to the event with eight of them bringing home medals. The team earned two gold, three silver, and three bronze medals. Special congratulations to Ethan Fonseca and Makenna Greenfelder for bringing home their first competition medals! Also, special recognition to Courtney Revada for competing in his first brown belt division. One of the many highlights of the event included a clean sweep for Team Sacramento with Albert Williams, Jordan Greenfelder, and Desmyn Williams bringing home all the medals in their division. The team won 19 matches while losing 15 with 17 wins by ippon! Here are the individual results:

November 2013 Schedule

Team Sacramento schedule for November will include one tournament and some time off to enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday. Team Sacramento practice schedule will remain the same in November with the following exceptions:
 
There will be no practice on Saturday November 9 as the team will be competing in the Palo Alto Judo Tournament on Sunday November 10
 
There will be no practice on Wednesday November 27, Thursday November 28, and Saturday November 30 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday
 
All other class locations and schedules will remain the same during November and be prepared to compete in the final tournament of 2013 on Sunday December 8, at San Francisco City College.

2013 Capital Open Results

Team Sacramento competed in the 2013 Capital Open in Sacramento on October 6. The team consisted of 16 students with several first and second time competitors. Special recognition to first time participants McKenna Greenfelder, Ray Abisia, Rob Barrie, Adam Baquera. All of the new students competed and gained valuable experience. The team won 23 matches while losing 33 with 20 of 23 wins coming by ippon. A total of nine players brought home medals. Here are the individual results:

October Schedule

Team Sacramento will be starting the 2013/2014 tournament season during the month of October. We will be attending the Capital Open on Sunday October 6 in Sacramento. This is the only tournament in Sacramento and is always an exciting time for new competitors and experienced players. We expect to have a large team participate in the event and look forward to the competition. After the event we will be having a team building meal to celebrate. As always there will be no practice the day before the tournament on Saturday October 5. All other classes will be at the regularly scheduled locations and times.

September Schedule

Team Sacramento is set to start our 2013/2014 season off after our summer break. Classes will begin after Labor Day on Tuesday September 3. August 2013 Schedule

As we did last season Team Sacramento will be taking most of the month of August off. We will practice August 1 and August 5 to the 8 as normal, and taking the rest of the month to recover from a long season and prepare to start a new one. We will be having a special summer picnic on August 3 at the Folsom Aquatic Center. Please contact Joanne for details. Make sure to enjoy the break and be ready to start a new season with the first practice starting on Tuesday September 3.

Junior Pan Am Games

Syria Rhodes competed in Buenos Aires, Argentina in the Junior Pan Am Games this month. After winning her first match by ippon she had to withdraw while leading in her second match due to a shoulder injury that will now require September surgery. She was still able to record a 5th place finish. We wish Syria a speedy recovery as she comes back from her injury.

Farewell Ed Azuar

Farewell to Ed Azuar, a coach and member of Team Sacramento for many years. Ed was laid to rest last week and will be remembered for his playful attitude, incredibly strong handshake, and kind heart. Ed you will be missed. Thoughts and prayers from Team Sacramento to all your family and friends.

July Scedule

Team Sacramento July schedule will have a few days off and one big tournament. The team will be off on Thursday July 4 and Saturday July 6 to observe Independence Day. There will also be no practice on Saturday July 20 because of a press event at Folsom MMA. The team will have competitors traveling to Pittsburgh PA for USJF-USJA Junior Nationals. Best wishes and safe travels to the team on the weekend of July 6 & 7. Special reminder that the team will be off for most of August. Exact dates will be decided soon.

2013 Junior Olympic Results

Team Sacramento participated in the 2013 Junior Olympics in Dallas, TX June 28 to 30. The team sent six competitors to the event. As a team the record was 10 wins and 10 losses with eight of the 10 wins coming by ippon. Highlights included a bronze medal for Albert Williams in just his second national competition. His brother Desmyn competing in the same division took 5th. Marlina Luz won her fourth straight Junior Olympic title competing in the Juvenile A group for the first time. Marlina was also awarded the Female Sportsmanship Award for day one of the competition. Special congratulations to both Desmyn Williams and Jordan Greenfelder who competed in the first national tournament of their careers. Here are the individual results:

June 2013 Schedule

Team Sacramento has a full practice schedule in June as we prepare players for the upcoming Junior Olympics and USJA/USJF Junior Nationals. All practice times will remain on schedule with the exception of Saturday June 29 when there will be no practice. During that week several team members will be traveling to Dallas to compete in the Junior Olympics. Please make sure to attend practice so that we can get our competitors ready for the upcoming events.

2013 California State Championship Results

Team Sacramento competed at the 2013 California State Championships on May 4 & 5 in San Francisco. The team had a challenging and successful weekend winning 17 matches while losing 22. Twelve of the wins were by ippon. Many of our competitors were moved up from the novice division to the championship division due to a lack of competitors. All players fought hard and showed the spirit of KONJO. Special congratulations to Ethan and Camren Fonseca for competing in their first judo tournament. May Schedule

The Team Sacramento May schedule includes the 2013 California State Championships in San Francisco on May 4 and 5. This event will include many first time state competitors and should be exciting. The remainder of the month will consist of regular practice days and times

April schedule is a standard schedule with no tournaments or events but full practice days and times for the entire month.

California State Championships are May 3,4, 5 in San Francisco, we will be focusing on getting ready for States as well as our summer tournaments.

Cupertino Tournament Results

Team Sacramento had seven players compete in the Cupertino Judo Tournament on Sunday March 24. All seven competitors brought home medals for an excellent showing by the team! National Scholastic Results

Team Sacramento had three players participate in the National Scholastic Championships in Miami on March 23-24. The tournament was the qualifier for the World Cadet and World Junior Championships later this year. Competing on Saturday Daniel Luz did not place but was very tough in a loaded Cadet 60 kilo division. Daniel won one and lost two being beaten by the eventual third place finisher. His one win was by ippon. Marlina Luz won her two matches by ippon to place first. On Sunday Syria Rhodes placed first losing one match and qualifying for the Junior World Championships. Syria also won the the Competitive Spirit Award for her excellent performance. Congratulations to all of you for your accomplishments that you have worked so hard to achieve.

March Schedule

Team Sacramento March schedule will have one tournament and one special workout to go with all regularly scheduled practices. On Saturday March 16 we will have the Annual Sensei Birthday Workout starting at 10:00 AM in Folsom. This is always a fun but challenging workout so come prepared! The team will also participate in the Cupertino Judo Tournament on Sunday March 24. As always there will be no practice the day before the tournament on Saturday March 23. Vacaville Tournament Results

Team Sacramento had a fun and successful day at the Vacaville PAL Tournament on Sunday February 24. There were a total of 11 competitors from the team. Special recognition to the four first time competitors Stephen Butler, Marcus Or, Railyn Abisia, and Kali Seto. The team fared well with a win/loss record of 26-18. Of the 26 victories there were 24 ippons scored. A total of seven of the eleven competitors brought home medals, and here are the results:

February Schedule

Team Sacramento has two tournaments during the month of February as part of the normal schedule. We will be competing at the Sensei Memorial in San Jose on Sunday February 10. This will be a very competitive tournament and I hope to see our best competitors perform to expectations. We will also be competing in the Vacaville PAL Tournament on Sunday February 24. This will be an excellent opportunity for our new students to experience competition for the first time. I hope to have a lot of first time competitors in Vacaville. As always there is no practice Saturday February 9 and 23 before the tournaments. All other practice times and schedules will remain the same.

The Team Sacramento January schedule will be a full practice schedule with a special black belt ceremony for Katie Davis on Saturday January 5. The ceremony will follow the regular practice schedule starting at 10:00 AM. All students are expected to attend and white judogi is mandatory. Please join us for this special occasion to welcome Katie to the KONJO yudansha.
