CCSF Tournament Results

Team Sacramento had seven competitors participate in the CCSF tournament in San Francisco on December 2. The team had a great day placing all seven competitors, with three golds, two silvers, and two bronze medals. The competitors won 18 matches losing 8, with 15 wins coming by ippon! Congratulations to Caitlin Abisia for winning her first match and receiving her first medal! The individual results were:

December Schedule

December will be a very busy month for Team Sacramento with the CCSF Tournament, Junior Workout/Christmas Party, and the holidays. There will be no practice on Saturday December 1 as we will be competing the next day Sunday December 2 at the CCSF Judo Tournament. We will hold our annual Junior Workout and Christmas Party Pot Luck on Saturday December 15 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Please contact Joanne for information regarding the pot luck. Come enjoy this event whether you are a current member or former member who wants to stop in to say hello. This is one of the funnest events of the entire year. At the end of the month for the holidays we will be taking the following days off from practice:

Monday December 24 and Tuesday December 25

Monday December 31 and Tuesday January 1

All other practice times and schedules will remain the same. We look forward to a great December and starting our push for tournament season in January.

Palo Alto Tournament Results

Team Sacramento had 10 competitors compete in the Palo Alto Judo Tournament on November 11. The team received 8 medals bringing home five gold and three silver. The competitors compiled a record of 19 wins against 10 losses with 18 of the 19 wins coming by ipon! We have a lot to work on but a great job by everyone. Next tournament is in San Francisco on December 2. Here are the individual results:

SAVE THE DATE

Team Sacramento will be doing our holiday party on Friday January 11, 2013. We are doing it at the later date to avoid conflict with other holiday events. Please mark you calendars for this fun event!

November Schedule

Team Sacramento schedule for November includes one tournament and two days off for Thanksgiving.  The Team will compete in the Palo Alto Judo Tournament on Sunday November 11. All of the coaches are looking forward to seeing everyone compete and continue to improve. The month also includes the Thanksgiving holiday and the team will be taking Wednesday November 21 and Thursday November 22 off from practice. All other practice days and times will continue as normal. We look forward to seeing everyone continue working hard to make the 2012/2013 season a success.

October Schedule

The schedule for Team Sacramento includes our first tournament of the 2012/2013 season. This tournament is the Capitol Open in Sacramento on Sunday October 7. This is always a great event to start your judo competition experience or to come and watch a judo tournament to see a competition first hand. As always there will be no practice the Saturday before the tournament October 6. All other practice schedules will remain the same. Please go to the tournament to support your team if you are not going to compete, and best wishes to all competitors.

September 2012 Schedule

We are ready to start a new season at Team Sacramento! After a month long break, practice for the team resumes on September 4. All practice times and locations remain the same:

Sacramento Monday-Wednesday 5:00 to 6:30 PM Folsom Tuesday-Thursday 6:30 to 8:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

All of the coaches are looking forwarding to seeing everyone and starting a great new season!

2012 Paralympics

Katie has arrived and they have completed the opening ceremonies for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. She will be competing on September 1, in the 70+ kilo division along with 8 other competitors from France, China, Brazil, Algeria, Russia, Turkey, and Bulgaria. Please keep her in your thoughts this weekend as she tries to bring home hardware from London.

August Schedule

Team Sacramento will be taking a break from practice from July 31 returning on September 4. This is an excellent time for students and competitors to relax and recover from a long and difficult season. It does not mean that students cannot continue to study judo at home and work on things to make them better when they come back. All students are expected to take the break and use it to improve. We will start our season strong in September to get ready for the early part of tournament season. Students, parents, and coaches enjoy the break and we will see you in September!

2012 Junior Olympic Results

Team Sacramento sent four competitors to the 2012 Junior Olympics in Dallas from July 20-22. The four players competed in six divisions and fought hard showing all of the effort and training that they have done over the past several months. The team had eight wins and seven losses with four of the eight wins coming by ippon. Here are the individual results:

July 2012 Schedule

Team Sacramento practices will be cancelled on Tuesday July 3 (Folsom) and Wednesday July 4 (Sacramento) due to the Independence Day Holiday. Also the team will travel to the 2012 Junior Olympics in Dallas the weekend of July 20 to 22. Due to the travel schedule there will be no practice on Saturday July 21. All other practice schedules remain the same.

Santa Clara PAL Tournament Results

Albert and Desmyn Williams competed in the Santa Clara PAL Tournament on Sunday June 3. Albert won one match and lost one match to bring home a silver medal while Desmyn won his three matches to get the gold! Great job!

Saturday was a great day but so difficult to say goodbye to new friends! Thanks for everything our Belgian friends and we hope we can have the opportunity to pay your kindness back. We are safely on US soil now, a few more hours and we will be home!

Amazing day on the coast of Belgium viewing the North Atlantic. Trained really hard at Crossing in the evening! We were treated like kings and shown a great time. Tomorrow will be our last day. It will be difficult to say goodbye to our new friends and judo family members. We will see you again. Au revoir

Great workout Wednesday! Syria & Kyle were able to join the Belgian National Team for practice. There were 40 black belts on the mat with them. Daniel & Mina attended practice at Budo with a group of nearly 50 students. During the day we were able to visit Bruges and had a great experience.

Waterloo tour and monument was amazing! The lumps that all the students took at Crossing was even more amazing. Rough training but there is no quit in any of the them. KONJO! Today Bruges then training at Budo for Daniel & Mina while Kyle & Syria will train with the Belgian National Team.

Team Sacramento Judo first day in Belgium

First full day in Belgium was a national holiday. Our host Cristian had a BBQ with all of the judoka coaches from the area. It was great to meet everyone and share stories. The students had a great time! Today it is a visit ti Waterloo then practice at the Crossing tonight.

2012 California State Championship Results

Team Sacramento participated in the California State Championships on May 19 & 20 in Fresno. There were a total of 11 competitors participating in the tournament and the team brought home four gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals. The individual results were:

May Schedule

Team Sacramento May schedule includes the 2012 California State Championships in Fresno from May 18-20. Registration will be held May 18 with competition following on May 19 & 20. This will be an excellent opportunity for competitors to demonstrate all of the hard work and dedication that they have had over the last several months. There will also be no practice on Saturday May 19 because of the tournament and then the following Saturday May 26 in observance of the Memorial Day weekend holiday. All other practices and schedules will remain standard. Best wishes at State Championships to all competitors.

Tournament Cancelled

The Bay Isle Tournament in Alameda that was scheduled for April 29 has been cancelled. Sorry for the inconvenience but the tournament director sent an e mail this week informing judo clubs in the area that tournament had to be cancelled. Since there is no tournament that day Team Sacramento will be having a Saturday practice on April 28 in Folsom.

April Schedule

April schedule will be one of preparation for the upcoming State Championships in Fresno on May 19. There will be a full practice schedule except for Saturday April 28 as we will be attending the Bay Isle Tournament on Sunday April 29 in Alameda. This month we will step up our preparation for the State tournament so that we will be ready to compete in May. Attendance to practice is expected for all competitors.

German Open

In preparation for the Paralympic games Katie Davis went to Germany for training followed by competition in the German Open. Katie placed fifth out of eight competitors beating a German competitor and gaining a forfeit when her Bulgarian competitor could not compete due to injury, while losing to two different Russian competitors. This event is part of the process that Katie has started to get ready to compete in London in September.

Cupertino Tournament Results

Team Sacramento sent eight competitors to the Cupertino Judo Tournament on March 25. It was a great tournament with nearly 4oo competitors participating in the event. The team did a great job and brought back six medals. Of the eight competitors there were five gold, one bronze, one fourth, and unfortunately one competitor had to withdraw because of injury. The team won 20 matches losing only five with 15 wins coming by ipon. Here are the results for individual competitors:

March Schedule

The March schedule for Team Sacramento is a full slate. Please make a note of the following special dates and events. The annual Sensei Birthday workout will be held on Saturday March 17 at 10:00 AM in Folsom. All students and friends of Team Sacramento are encouraged to attend the workout or come for a visit. This will be a hard workout and all students should be prepared. The workout will be followed by a pot luck that everyone is encouraged to attend. The following weekend the team will be competing in the Cupertino Tournament on March 25. As always this will mean there is no practice on Saturday March 24. All other practice times and days will remain the same.

Vacaville PAL Tournament

Team Sacramento competed at the Vacaville PAL tournament on Sunday February 26. There were eight competitors representing the team and the team had an excellent performance. A total won-loss record of 24-12 was posted with 23 of the 24 wins coming by ipon. A total of seven medals were brought home including two gold, four silver, and one bronze. Congratulations to Syria Rhodes for becoming the 2012 California State Female Wrestling Champion. Syria has just completed her third year of wrestling and capped it off with a state championship. We are all very proud of you Syria!

February Schedule

February will be a busy schedule with one tournament and a very important clinic during the month. Team Sacramento will be participating in the Vacaville PAL Tournament on February 26 in Vacaville California. This is an excellent tournament for all participants but is especially good for first time competitors. We will also be participating in a Daiheigen sponsored clinic by Yoko Tanabe a multiple Olympic medalist from Japan. The clinic will be at the East Bay Judo Institute in San Pablo, CA. on February 11 at 10:00 AM. This will be an excellent clinic and Ms. Tanabe has an impressive resume of competitive success in major World and Olympic competitions. The tournament and clinic schedule mean that we will not have practice on Saturday February 11 or Saturday February 25. All other practice times and schedules will remain the same. Sensei Memorial Results

Team Sacramento competed in the Sensei Memorial on January 29, in San Jose California. The team was made up of 12 competitors and had an excellent day. Of the 12 competitors, eight brought home medals including seven Gold, and one silver. The total win loss record for the team was 29 - 12, with 28 of the 29 wins by ipon. Excellent judo! Satellite Weigh In Location & Time

Satellite weigh in will for Sensei Memorial Tournament in San Jose will be held Thursday January 26 at Boys and Girls Club located at 5212 Lemon Hill Ave., Sacramento (enter through the door on the left side of the building) from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. ONLY PRE-REGISTERED CONTESTANTS MAY WEIGH IN AT THE SATELLITE WEIGH IN. We need to continue training hard to be ready for this tournament.
